Mandarin Oriental, Macau eliminates 150 000 plastic bottles – per year

Editor · December 9, 2019

Mandarin Oriental Group has pledged to eliminate all single-use plastic, across its entire portfolio of luxury hotels, by the end of March 2021.

Mandarin Oriental in Macau has already installed its onsite Nordaq water filtration systems.

This solution will eliminate the need for all plastic bottles used for Mandarin Oriental, Macau’s 213 rooms, restaurants, banquets, and events yearly. The bottled water is tapped onsite using the Swedish patent, the Nordaq filter system, which allows both still and sparkling water.

“Our hotel was using 150,000 plastic bottles every year and these bottles ended up in landfill, harming the environment.”

sagte Christian Dolenc, General Manager, Mandarin Oriental Macau

“Plastic waste is one of the gravest environmental concerns affecting our planet today. While our relatively small footprint limits our contribution to the world’s plastic reduction, as one of the most iconic luxury global hotel groups we are in a strong position to drive important changes in the industry.”

sagte James Riley, Group Chief Executive, Mandarin Oriental.
